Reasons of this program?

A lot of projects  occure  across the line organization. Most of them are over time or budget,  or don’t bring the hoped results because there were no clear agreements in the initial stage concerning the objectives and the  delimitation of the project.

During their realisation, projects often slow down due to problems that could have been foreseen and avoided using a structured planning and follow up methods, in combination with a good management of risks. Besides, anticipation  of problems is  one of the basic principles of project management.
When different project are executed simultaneously by the same group of people, problems even become more acute. Nevertheless, leading a project is more than just planning and follow-up. A lack of leadership skills causes demotivation, conflicts, stress and burn-out situations. The motivation of a well-collaborating team requires leadership including relational and communicational skills.

Making clear agreements with the team and other key actors,  and systematically follow them up afterwards are probably the most important tasks of the project manager.

What can you expect from this basic training in project management?

This 5-days training is meant for (oncoming) project leaders and procures a qualitative and theoretical knowledge from the ‘hard’ instrumental and ‘soft’ social aspects of project management.

During the training, you will familiarise yourself with the basic competences you need to manage a project in a good way.

The basic training is based on the IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB) for IPMA in which are described knowledge, experiences and behaviour a project manager must know /know how to apply). More information concerning IPMA can be find further on.

After the training, the candidate will be able to take part in the IPMA D  or C exam. However this is not obligatory. The exam- and certification cost is not included in the participation price and amounts to 610 euro, excluding VAT.

In order to help you acquire the neccessary competences (knowledge, skills, experience, attitudes) in project management and to help all participants desiring to participate in the IPMA C or D exam to pass succesfully, different didactic methods will be used:

Starting (partial) project leaders. There are no formal admission exigences, although candidates with a certain experience in project management will have an advantage.

The participants learn to apply this knowledge in simple projects. After the training they are able to make the IPMA exam and to obtain a good result.

IPMA Certification of project managers

More and more employers try to stimulate their project managers to obtain the IPMA-certificat because working with IPMA increases the chance to reach the project objectives within time and budget. Project managers themselves believe that the IPMA-certificat proves their capabilities for the job. This proof (IPMA certificat A, B, C or D) will be delivered if the participant passes the exam with an external evaluator (CITO).

What is IPMA?

IPMA, the world’s first project management association, was founded in 1965 by a group of innovative people as a forum for project managers to network and share information.

In order to concretise this,  IPMA developped the International Competence Baseline (ICB), which describes the necessary knowledge, skills, experience and attitudes for project management.

IPMA-certification is a system in which project managers can obtain a certification on 4 different levels. Projectmanagers tend indeed to differ in experience as well as in the level in the organization where they operate. This is also applicable to the complexity of the projects they lead. IPMA makes a difference and also makes clear which knowledge and skills project managers possess. Clarity for the employer, the customer, and even for the project manager himself! Besides, IPMA is a  rich awareness- and reflection process, that enables project managers to deepen their knowledge and to become more professional.

The IPMA-certificats contain 4 levels with an international validity (in over 40 countries), from starting manager (level D) to experienced, responible program manager on top of the organization (level A):

Marie-Noëlle DE CLERCQ is consultant at Amelior since 2012. Before, she was global operational development coordinator and initiator at Volvo. Coaching and developing people and teams gave her most energy.
That’s why she chose to be a full time trainer/consultant in the field of people management such as social skills, competence management, change management, communication, motivation etc.

Kathleen DE RYCKE is senior consultant at Amelior since 2010. Before, she did scientific work for University Ghent and was free lance HRM consultant and coach of individuals and teams. She has a lot of expertise and experience in HRM and psychosocial wellbeing. Healthcare, hospitals, public services and pharmaceutical industry are sectors which Kathleen is very familiar with especially in the fields of HRM, stress management, team development, communication, motivation, leadership, change management….

Francis MAÑAS ir. is a civil engineer, and besides a Master of Business Administration (KUL), he received numerous trainings at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, RUG and Amelior. As senior management consultant at Amelior, he is strongly committed to improve the activities of organizations where strategy, (key)processes, indicators and knowledge management are at the centre. Furthermore, he has coached various public organizations with CAF self evaluation.
